What Makes Irish Pottery So Special?

Discover the Story Behind Irish Pottery...

Founded in 1976 in a restored family mill on the River Nore, Nicholas Mosse pottery carries forward the old Irish spongeware tradition that once filled cottage kitchens across Ireland. The patterns are inspired by Irish hedgerows, wildflowers, and country gardens, so every table setting carries a little piece of the Irish landscape.

Nicholas Mosse Pottery collectors often start with a mug or bowl and then slowly build a collection around patterns they love. The patterns are intentionally designed to coordinate across collections. You can add pieces over years without everything needing to match perfectly. Over time, each new piece becomes tied to memories, travel, or family traditions. Build a living collection that evolves with your home and family.

"Before I started selling Nicholas Mosse pottery I visited Bennettsbridge and the shop of Nicholas Mosse. At that time it was just down the road from the factory where the pottery was made. His mother was the one that was running the quaint shop. It was there that I purchased my first piece of Nicholas Mosse pottery - a tiny jug in the Old Rose pattern. It was a hard choice because of all the beautiful patterns and pieces. I still have that jug and many more pieces that I have added to my collection. And of course I started selling the pottery not long after that visit." -Ann Marie
